FIW Trade Talks is a series of events organized by the Research Centre International Economics (FIW). International economic researchers or high-level policy makers are interviewed on current topics in international economics and economic policy.

Simon Evenett

Simon J. Evenett is Professor of International Trade and Economic Development at the University of St. Gallen, Switzerland, and Co-Director of the CEPR Programme in International Trade and Regional Economics.

Evenett taught previously at Oxford and Rutgers University, and served twice as a World Bank official. He was a non-resident Senior Fellow of the Brookings Institution in Washington. He is Member of the High Level Group on Globalisation established by the French Trade Minister Christine LaGarde, Member of the Warwick Commission on the Future of the Multilateral Trading System After Doha, and was Member of the the Zedillo Committee on the Global Trade and Financial Architecture.

In addition to his research into the determinants of international commercial flows, he is particularly interested in the relationships between international trade policy, national competition law and policy, and economic development. He obtained his Ph.D. in Economics from Yale University.

 

Harald Oberhofer

Harald Oberhofer is a Senior Economist at WIFO, the Austrian Institute of Economic Research. He is Professor of Economics at the Vienna University of Economics and Business.

His research interests include International Economics, empirical Industrial Organisation and Applied Econometrics. Harald Oberhofer studied at the University of Innsbruck and holds a doctorate in Economics and Social Sciences from the University of Innsbruck. Harald Oberhofer regularly serves as a consultant to international organisations such as the OECD and the World Bank, where he analyses the impact of institutional regulations on firm performance, also over the business cycle.
