FIW-Note No. 20 (September 2015) published
FIW publishes biannually FIW Notes. They present an overview of the most important Austrian and international developments regarding International Economics. The 20th issue is now available for free on the FIW-Website.
2nd Call for Papers for the 8th FIW Research Conference
FIW – the Austrian Research Centre International Economics invites the submission of papers to be presented at the 8th annual FIW Research Conference on International Economics. The main objective of the conference is to provide a platform for economists working in the field of International Economics in Austria and its neighbouring countries to present recent research. The submission deadline ends on September 30, 2015. The conference takes place on December 3-4, 2015 at the WIFO (Austrian Institute of Economic Research) in Vienna.
Update FIW Statistics
We updated the FIW-Statistics. The "Current FIW-Statistics on International Trade" offer a clear and graphical overview on key data and indices reflecting current international developments on international trade.
Statistics Austria: anuary to May 2015: decrease in imports (-1.2%) and exports (-0.2%)
According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, total imports amounted to €53.88 bn and total exports amounted to €52.87 bn in the period January to May 2015. Austrian imports decreased by 1.2% while Austrian exports declined by 0.2% compared to the same period in 2014. The global foreign trade balance showed a deficit of €1.01 bn.

Statistics Austria: Regional foreign trade 2014 (preliminary results): Upper Austria and Vorarlberg with highest absolute increases in exports
According to preliminary regional results by Statistics Austria for the year 2014, Upper Austria, Vienna and Lower Austria showed – in the order indicated – the highest external trade values in terms of trade-intensity (sum of imports and exports).
Statistics Austria: January to April 2015: decrease in imports (-0.2%), increase in exports (+0.4%)
According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, total imports amounted to €43.76 bn and total exports amounted to €42.70 bn in the period January to April 2015. Austrian imports decreased by 0.2% while Austrian exports rose by 0.4% compared to the same period in 2014. The global foreign trade balance showed a deficit of €1.06 bn.
