Statistics Austria: Regional foreign trade statistics data 2013 (preliminary results): Highest increases in exports for Lower Austria and Upper Austria

According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria for 2013, the federal states Upper Austria, Vienna and Lower Austria showed – in the order indicated – the highest external trade values in terms of trade-intensity (sum of imports and exports). Regarding imports, Burgenland recorded with 6.5% the highest growth whereas the imports of Vienna decreased by 3.7%. Compared to 2012, exports from Burgenland increased by 8.9%, while Tyrolean exports declined by 2.0%. In absolute numbers Lower Austria (€1.12 bn.) and Upper Austria (€0.44 bn.) showed the highest increases in exports. Five of the nine Austrian federal states showed a foreign trade surplus in 2013.

Statistics Austria: January to April 2014: increase in imports (1.3%) and exports (1.8%)

According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, total imports amounted to €43.39 bn and total exports amounted to €42.35 bn in the period January to April 2014. Austrian imports increased by 1.3% and Austrian exports rose by 1.8% compared to the same period in 2013. The global foreign trade balance showed a deficit of €1.04 bn.

Statistics Austria: Austrian foreign trade in 2013 (final results)

Compared to 2012, the turnover of the Austrian foreign trade in the period January to December 2013 (final results) indicated a decrease with regard to imports and a positive growth rate with regard to exports. Austrian imports of goods fell by 1.0 per cent to €130.71 bn, Austrian exports increased by 1.8 per cent to €125.81 bn. Foreign trade with EU member states showed a similar development; arrivals sank and dispatches rose (arrivals: -0.7 per cent to €93.17 bn; dispatches: +1.6 per cent to €86.74 bn). Trade with third-countries showed a decrease for imports (-1.7 per cent to €37.54 bn) and a growth for exports (+2.4 per cent to €39.07 bn). The Austrian trading of goods balance deficit amounted to €4.90 bn while the year before the balance had shown a deficit of €8.44 bn.

Statistics Austria: January to March 2014: increase in imports and exports (+2,6%)

According to preliminary results by Statistics Austria, total imports amounted to 32.47 bn and total exports amounted to €31.32 bn in the period January to March 2014. Austrian imports as well as exports increased by 2.6% compared to the same period in 2013. The global foreign trade balance showed a deficit of €1.16 bn.

On June 18, 2014, 1:00 pm the Austrian Economic Chambers and the The Oesterreichische Nationalbank (OeNB) present their publication "Schwerpunkt Außenwirtschaft 2013/14" at the WKO Sky Lounge of the Austrian Economic Chamber, 12th floor, Wiedner Hauptstraße 63, 1040 Wien. The workshop begins with a discussion with CEOs about Austria as industrial location under the moderation of WKO-President Christoph Leitl.
